Non-stop feasting Friday

Hi guys! I'm back with a post on the JB day trip that I went with Bin Xiang and Sin Teck yesterday. Yes, I know, you must be wondering why I always go to JB, but that's because I find it really nice and relaxing to just head in and have a good lunch,walk around and spend less for more items. Hahah. Okay so back to the point. I met the boys at Kranji station at about 10.40am and we bused in to JB! The whole journey was pretty smooth, with no jams and no queues at the customs. So we reached City Square at approximately 11.40am or so. Sin Teck started shopping for some berms at Factory Outlet Store, and we saw a pair of berms that was hugeeeee! Just look at the picture below and you'll know what I mean. Alright so we cabbed to KSL after ST bought his stuff and we settled our lunch there. From then on, it was a series of eating frenzy. I swear I was so full and bloated by the time I left JB.

We bought the tickets for the movie Universal Soldiers. FYI, this show is totally gruesome and very very brutal. Its the worst movie that I've ever watched. I have no freaking idea what the storyline of this movie was at all. Throughout the whole movie, it was just people killing people, shooting them in their heads and chopping off fingers and toes. I literally closed my eyes throughout the whole movie and I was left annoyed at certain parts of the movie, especially the bright white lights flashing non stop for a period of time during the movie. In short, don't bother watching it, unless you really love those gory scenes.

we ordered a plate of gyoza, and each of us ordered a shabu shabu set which comes with a plate of meat, vermicelli/rice/noodles, vegetables and some other ingredients, somewhat like yongtaufoo, but much nicer. The guys were still hungry, so they ordered one more plate of gyoza in addition to the plate that we already ordered before. This lunch was so satisfying, but a little too filling as well.

 I got the milk tea with grass jelly, Binz got the ice cream milk tea, whereas Sin Teck got his Teh-O bing from another stall. Hahha, his all time favourite. 

After the movie, we went to Holiday Plaza to get some iPhone accessories. 

While walking there, we saw some old school windows, and we each chose one and took a photo with it. 

And YAY, we're finally here!

We spent some time looking for the right iPhone cases and screen protectors. After which, we left for bak kut teh dinner!

The total damage for this meal was 70RM, with drinks and rice.Which works out to be about 28.50SGD. Pretty affordable right?

After this meal, we headed back to KSL to buy some food stuff to bring back to Singapore and Binz suddenly said that he felt like eating somemore. Honestly speaking, I was already mad full after the Bak kut teh meal. But since he thought of having desserts, I gave in. *inserts guilty face*. So we settled for ice cream at Seasons. They were having a promotion to celebrate their 37th Anniversary, so we decided to order the regular Earthquake as well as fries to share.

8 Scoops of ice cream and 8 toppings for just 27.90RM. Worth it or what?

And with this dessert meal, we made our way back to the customs and headed back to Singapore. I personally feel that this is too much food for me to stomach, but nonetheless, I had an awesome time in JB! More of such trips soon! :)

Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh @ Johore Bahru

Hi guys! It's a Sunday again, I'm back with a post on yummy Bak Kut Teh in JB to chase away your pre-Monday blues. My parents and I went to JB for a day trip today, and we settled our dinner at the awesome bak kut teh stall that we frequent almost everytime we are at JB. We love this place not only for the nice food, but also because everything is so old school. They serve the soup in a claypot so the soup will be warm throughout your meal, and even their bowls, are not the plastic or Styrofoam kind that you might find in hawkers. I just love places that have a really old school feel. Alright, some pictures to share!

 Soon Soon Heng Bak Kut Teh. It's located just opposite KSL City Mall, so it should be pretty accessible.

Salted Vegetables. My dad loved this dish, cause it's not too salty, and it's extremely yummy when you eat it with rice. This is a must order dish whenever we dine there.

 Next up, Stir fried beansprouts. This place serves the best beansprouts ever! The beansprouts are crunchy and sweet. They will also stir fry it with salted fish and ikan billis, which brings this simple beansprout dish to a whole new level. Even the garlic bits that they fry them with is yummy. There's practically nothing to complain about this awesome dish. Maybe just that it can be a little oily. 

TADAAHH! The main dish of the night. Hot bubbling bak kut teh. What I love about the BKT here is that they have several different ingredients that you can choose to add on, in  addition to the usual BKT soup. But the additional ingredients will be at a separate cost. As for my family, we will always add fish maw, tau kee and mushrooms. We love the fish maw the most, but of course, we simply love this BKT. The soup is not exactly the kind that has a lot of herbs, or very peppery. It's more of the pork base soup, that's very flavourful. Definitely worth a try.

This yummy BKT deserves a second picture. Look at all the meaty pork ribs. It's not the very hard kind of pork ribs. The meat is pretty soft and fresh. Oh and, the soup is refillable, so just go ahead and drink as much as you want. Haha.

The total bill for our meal with 2 cups of drinks and 2 bowls of rice costs RM53 for 3 pax. Really affordable right? Please do mark this place down the next time you head to JB. It wouldn't disappoint! Just one negative point is that it can get very hot when you visit this place in the afternoon. So please prepare more packets of tissue.

This is the address that I googled. I think it should be correct, but to be safe, just head to KSL City Mall and exit from the Basement 1 or 2 exit and you'll see a row of shophouses. It is located at the first few shops along that stretch. It shouldn't be too difficult to locate. :)

Road trip to the East

Hi guys! Happy mid week! So as ya'll know, my last paper ended on Monday, so I have lots of time to hang out with my friends now. Shiyan and I decided to go for a cycle at East Coast Park. I felt super accomplished after driving from the West to the East. That feeling was simply awesome. But the very smart us didn't check the weather forecast before heading out, and the weather turned out to be really bad, with slight drizzles and lightning. We were extremely freaked out, so we only managed to cycle for 2 hours, including our lunch. We left ECP at about 1pm, and went to Old Changi Airport to get our Laoban, it's a must get since we're in the East, and we got 5 bowls each! After getting Laoban, I drove to City Plaza. I've always wanted to bring Shiyan there, and she loved that place. She managed to get 2 tops, and I got a skirt and a sequined collar top. I love the top! Will wear it out soon! Oh and, just so you know, Shiyan and I met when we were both in CJC for our first 3 months after O levels, but both of us didn't go to CJ in the end. Hah. So that explains why we're wearing the CJC tee in the pictures.

 We rented our bikes, and cycled to the Hawker cemtre at Area E for brunch. Apparently this Bak kut teh stall is quite famous, cause everyone there is eating it. Of course, we had to try it too! The Bak kut teh soup was quite good, but we liked the pig trotters better. The meat was tender, and not really fat. The braised sauce was very well done too. Yums!

We finished brunch and cycled down the park. There's this castle beach place along the stretch with a pretty sandcastle. I wonder if the sandcastle will be destroyed if there's a heavy downpour.

We headed back to the bicycle station to return our bikes after seeing the super scary lightning, and left to buy Laoban!

Next, we headed to City Plaza to shop! Within the one hour or so, we managed to get a few items!

There are many shops selling clothes there, but there are only a specific few shops that I go to. I forgot to take a picture of those shops that I go to, but they are located at level 3.

Heheh, it's such an awesome day! I love road trips like that. We can explore new food places, and I can improve on my driving skills too. Wahahah!
